About

About

Tim is an accomplished guitarist and a fluent sight reader, with over 20 years of experience, playing a variety of fretted string instruments including bass guitar, ukulele, mandolin, banjo and bouzouki. A fascination with the mechanics of the instrument led to much experimentation, repair, restoration, and setting up of various instruments over this time, and ultimately inspired the formation of  Broadway Guitar Services in 2023.

Setup, repair, customisation

Tim’s extensive knowledge of instrument mechanics allows him to diagnose and fix any issue that may arise, ensuring that your guitar or other fretted instrument performs at its absolute best. Whether it’s a broken string, a faulty pickup, or a complex electrical problem, Tim has the skills and expertise to tackle it with precision and care. At just 12 years old, Tim’s father taught him the art of soldering and building basic circuits. This early exposure to electronics sparked Tim’s curiosity, leading him to experiment with guitars, amps, and more besides. During his time at university, Tim embarked on an innovative project that showcased his innovative approach to guitar technology. He designed a guitar that could control effects parameters based on the gestures of the player and movement of the instrument. This project not only demonstrated Tim’s technical prowess but also showcased his ability to think outside the box and push the boundaries of conventional guitar playing and building.

Playing

As a fluent sight reader Tim’s services as a player are much in demand in and around Cambridgeshire and he has played in a number of local shows, including most recently a week-long run of Sister Act at Peterborough Cathedral. He is also an experienced dep, particularly on guitar and bass. Working primarily in musical theatre, Tim has experience of playing in a wide variety of styles –  from the Progressive Rock of Andrew Llyod Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar to ‘Solid Gold Disco’ in Sister Act or 9 to 5’s single-coil Country – Tim has the experience and musicality to bring the score to life. In these settings he predominantly plays though a Line 6 Helix system, either with Power Cab for live pits, or with IEMs in a silent pit setting.

Teaching

With 10 years’ experience teaching Music in secondary schools, currently working as a Director or Music and Performing Arts, Tim is a fully qualified teacher and supports students working towards graded exams, or just learning for fun. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and skills with aspiring guitarists, helping them unlock their full potential. Whether it’s beginners looking to master the basics or experienced players seeking to refine their technique, Tim provides personalised lessons tailored to each student’s needs. His patient and encouraging approach creates a supportive learning environment, fostering growth and musical development.

Transcriptions/Arrangements

Growing up with the internet in its infancy, Tim developed an excellent ear and ability to transcribe the pieces he wanted to learn to play – there simply wasn’t any other way to learn them! Coupled with a traditional music education and firm grasp of music theory, Tim is able to accurately transcribe for numerous fretted string instruments, authoring score in traditional notation or tablature. He also has experience arranging guitar, bass and horns for big band and pit band for musical settings.

Recording

In addition to his repair and performance work, Tim also offers his expertise in recording various fretted strings. With a keen ear for detail and a commitment to capturing the perfect sound, Tim ensures that each recording session produces exceptional results. His experience in working with different instruments and genres allows him to bring out the best in every recording, creating a polished and professional final product. With a first-class degree in Music Technology you can rest assured that any recoding is in safe hands.
